Computers have an impact on the lives of virtually everyone. Its getting more difficult to get along, much less get ahead, without some knowledge of them. You dont need an advanced degree or knowledge of intricate technical details about computers to use them intelligently. We are living in the midst of a computer revolution, where most skill-based jobs heavily depend on the creation, collection, and dissemination of information. Computers are also prevalent in the home, as well as in our society in general. Consequentially, virtually everyone should have some experience with and a basic level of comfort with computers. Online courses at North Carolina Wesleyan College offer students an opportunity to take classes that fit their schedule and learning style. Distance learning students work more independently than is typical for regular in-class courses. This means that online students are much more responsible for their own success by structuring their time, meeting deadlines, and completing assignments. Learning over the Internet is essentially a solitary activity. If you prefer face-to-face interaction or find it difficult to complete your lessons in a timely manner, you will probably find online learning more of a challenge. To succeed in online courses, students should be highly motivated and proficient using word processing, e-mail and web browser functions. There are no face-to-face meetings in this course. All communications are via email, web sites, discussion forums and chat rooms. We will NOT meet in person. However, you may contact the instructor during posted office hours or make an appointment. As more online courses are developed, campus orientation sessions may be scheduled. Please keep in contact with your ADP advisor or check out the course listings on CampusCruiser.
