Presocratic theme at this well-designed site devoted to Law, Women, and Criminology from

Probably the most extensive source of information on criminal justice in the world. NCJRS
is a group of clearinghouses supporting all the bureaus of the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, the National Institute of Justice (NIJ), the Office of Juvenile Justice and
Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP), the Bureau
of Justice Statistics (BJS), the Bureau of
Justice Assistance (BJA), the Office of
Victims of Crime (OVC), and the Office of
National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP).
- NLECTC This is the National Law Enforcement and
Corrections Technology Center, home of the JUSTNET web site, which includes technology reviews on such products as Laser
Dazzlers and smart guns, DNA
commission studies, crime mapping
& analysis, and other publications.
- The Sourcebook of Criminal Justice
Statistics This is the online version of the annual SOURCEBOOK published by
SUNY-Albany. Over 600 tables of data on just about any topic imaginable. Perfect tables,
charts, and diagrams for importing into term papers.
- The Interuniversity Consortium for
Political and Social Research The ICPSR is a consortium of colleges and universities
where researchers have archived their latest research projects. Over 500 online data
collections. Good source for secondary data analysis.

Office of Crime and Drugs This former UNCJIN site archives documents and data from

Information Network A joint NIJ/Abt Associates site that is a library of

Info on laws enforced and crimes handled by federal law enforcement agencies: FBI, DEA,
ATF, IRS, requires password, but free sections include About the Law guide to 3,000 fed

- Uniform Crime Reports and
NIBRS The UCR is published by the FBI as
our "official" crime rate and is searchable by city and state. NIBRS is the new
Incident-Based Reporting System.
- North Carolina Crime
Statistics The state version of the UCR. Some files require the Acrobat reader. Also

probably the best and most often-used search engine by lawyers; also see The LAWCRAWLER, a powerful search engine that is

- Key Cite from West Publishing Similar to
WESTLAW on CD-Rom from West Publishing Company. This site charges $3.75 a search and
serves the same purpose as Shepards Citations from McGraw-Hill, verifying if your case is
still "good law".
- HIEROS GAMOS-The Comprehensive Legal Site A huge
site devoted to the worldwide practice of law. Over 70,000 links, every government in the
world.
- Legal Research Online An
extensive index of resources from this Internet Service Provider.
- The Law Guru An extensive site offering free
legal advice, "Ask an Expert", common questions and answers, and research
capability.

- CORRECTIONS CONNECTION The biggest site in
corrections, constantly growing in resource coverage, with association links, and pointers
to just about every state and county in the U.S. as well as a whole lot more. Also houses
the American Correctional Association home

- The Other Side of the
Wall A nicely-done site
focusing on prison law and a whole lot more. See Rick's List of Prison Links for the
hard-to-find topics like health and religion with state-by-state links.
- Criminal Justice Institute (Connecticut) -
publishers of the Corrections Yearbook.
- The NYS C.O.'s
Information Page An extensive prison site maintained by a New York corrections officer
and AFSCME advocate. Go here for prison news, gang info, and issues, especially union
issues.
- National Institute of Corrections
Resources and federal training documents.
- Prison Privatization Research This is
a good site on all things privatized.
- IGC PeaceNet
An online community of political activists who have amassed a collection of annotated
links, including many prison-related ones.
- The JailNet Somewhat the same as the ACA home

- Families Against Mandatory Minimums Claims to be
the most comprehensive source of info on sentencing laws, but questionable if they
deliver on this claim.
- Death Penalty Links A fairly comprehensive

- Search USENET using DEJANEWS The newsgroup search engine

and there were (and still are) hundreds of them devoted to justice. Sometimes you get good, original
content, and sometimes you get people who just want to share things.
- MetaList of Mailing Lists This is a MetaSite search
engine that allows you to check out what topics are being discussed on IRC channels,
newsgroups, and mailing lists. It's kind of ironic, but to search for academic topics, you
have to set the junk filter at "none".
- About.com Newsletters This is
the home page for the About.com guides, many of whom have newsletters and other
interactive features at their sites. Many sites are CJ-related.
