YOUR BIO 408 GRADE AND THE ATTENDANCE POLICY

A good grade in Biology 408 requires (1) regular attendance in class and (2) regular study habits.  I will take attendance daily.  Missing 4 lectures results in a loss of 100 points from your total.  Missing 5 to 6 lectures results in a loss of 200 points.  Missing more than 6 lectures will result in a failing grade.  Excused absences will be given only if I receive a written note explaining why and when the absences occurred within one week of the classes missed.   Regular study habits are essential to earning a good grade.

YOU SHOULD STUDY AT LEAST TWO HOURS FOR EVERY HOUR OF CLASS TIME.

Academic Integrity

Working with each other in study groups is encouraged and is a great way of learning, but each student is to write his or her own assignments individually; they are not to be written with another student.  Refer to the catalog (p 76-77) for College's policy on plagiarism and cheating.

FIRST HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT

Write a one page, typed Letter of Introduction to me.  Include the following information about yourself: Hometown?  Sophomore, Junior or Senior? Major?  In relation to this class, tell me about your strengths and weaknesses, fears and goals.  Discuss what factors in your life might affect your performance in class and why.  What is your background in biology, math and science.  Why are you taking Histology?  What do you want to do with your undergraduate degree after you leave NCWC. Finally, tell me what I can do to help you succeed in this class. (20 bonus points)

GRADE SHEET

This grade sheet allows you to keep a record of your throughout the semester.  It is your responsibility to do so and keep all graded papers.  If there is any discrepancy between the grade you have calculated and the one that is assigned, it is your responsibility to prove what grade you have in your possession.  As the instructor I have the ability to change grades.  However, I will not change your grade without reviewing your papers (i.e. the ones that you saved).  I will also not review your grade during the semester to simply inform you as to what your grade is.  I will be happy to talk with you about any difficulties you are having and ways through which you might improve the effectiveness of your study time.
