YOUR GRADE AND THE ATTENDANCE POLICY
A good grade in Biology
314 requires (1) regular attendance in class and (2) regular study
habits. I will take attendance daily. You must be present for the entire
lecture period if you arrive late or leave early it counts as an absence. If you have more than 4 unexcused absences
your name will be sent to the
YOU
SHOULD STUDY AT LEAST TWO HOURS FOR EVERY HOUR OF CLASS TIME.
EXAM POLICY
It
is your responsibility to know the testing schedule and to take the exams
during the scheduled lecture time.
Makeup exams will only be given when there are extenuating circumstances
(you must provide documentation to be eligible for a makeup exam). If you anticipate a conflict with a scheduled
exam, see me as soon as possible (e.g. sporting event in which you
participate).
STUDY GROUPS
Early
in the semester the class will be divided into study groups. I encourage you to study together as a group. In a study group everyone benefits and you
learn from each other.
FIRST HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT
Extra credit
Write a one page, typed
Letter of Introduction to me.
Include the following information about yourself: Hometown? Freshman or sophomore? Major? In relation to this class, tell me about your
strengths and weaknesses, fears and goals.
Discuss what factors in your life might affect your performance in class
and why. What is your background in math
and science? Why are you taking
Vertebrate Zoology? Finally, tell me
what I can do to help you succeed in this class.
GRADE SHEET
This grade sheet allows you to keep a
record of your throughout the semester. It is your responsibility to do so and keep
all graded papers. If there is any
discrepancy between the grade you have calculated and the one that is assigned,
it is your responsibility to prove what grade you have in your possession. As the instructor I have the ability to
change grades. However, I will not
change your grade without reviewing your papers (i.e. the ones that you
saved). I will also not review your
grade during the semester to simply inform you as to what your grade is. I will
be happy to talk with you about any difficulties you are having and ways
through which you might improve the effectiveness of your study time.
