PART VI: FACILITIES AND SERVICES
PART VI: FACILITIES AND SERVICES
Facilities and
services described earlier (where they seem most appropriate) are not listed
again here. The Library, for example, is discussed under "Academic
Areas" in Part 1; office supplies, under "College Property" in
Part V; the Tutoring Center, under "Student Support Center," in Part
1; the Health Center, under "Health" in Part V; and so forth.
Faculty members may
cash personal checks up to $100 in the Office of Registration and Business Services. The
College Cashier also accepts payment for College fees, administers accounts for
College organizations and refunds money lost in the
vending machines. Students may deposit funds with the Cashier and make
withdrawals as needed. There is no charge for any of these services.
Funds
for College-Related Business
The College fiscal
year begins June 1 and ends May 31. Faculty members anticipating the need for
division funds during the next academic year should discuss the matter with
their division chair in the Fall Term of the present year.
Faculty should follow the proper procedures to obtain funds for college-related business such as travel, faculty recruitment, professional development, equipment and supplies.
Funding is disbursed
in the following ways:
Check Requisition
Purchase Requisition
Cash Advance Request
Reimbursement Requisition
Forms for each of
these needs are available from the Office of Academic Affairs
or the Faculty Secretary. All division
expenditures must be approved by the chair and forwarded to the Dean
of the College.
Checks are issued on
Tuesday and Friday afternoons. Paperwork must be submitted at least twenty-four
hours prior to the issuance of the check.
For additional
information governing financial transactions, faculty members may refer to the
"Travel Policy" section of the Personnel Policy Manual.
There is a faculty
secretary in the office next to the Dean of the College. Teacher Education faculty have additional part-time
secretarial support.
Secretaries may assist with photocopying,
although in most instances faculty members will likely do their own.
Photocopiers are located in Office Services and elsewhere throughout the
campus, the two in Office Services being among those most frequently used by
the Faculty. They are activated with a confidential code, for which faculty
members should see the Supervisor of
Office Services.
Photocopying costs
are charged to division budgets and tabulated monthly.
Problems with
photocopying are reported to the Supervisor of Office Services.
Photocopying may not
be used in substitution for books and articles required for classes. This is an
infringement of copyright law and subjects one to legal sanction. See the sections
on Copyright Law in Part V.
For classes, the
Manager of the College Store can provide information about CoursePaks
- printed materials assembled as a
text, duplicated, and then sold. The manager assists with obtaining required
permissions.
Having materials
commercially printed is sometimes preferable to photocopying, especially when
the volume is large. The Supervisor of Office Services should be consulted
about the comparative advantages of printing, as well as the pricing, speed,
and quality of local printing companies.
The Supervisor of Office Services orders business cards for faculty and
staff.
The College provides full-time personnel for housekeeping and the maintenance of buildings and grounds. Requests for housekeeping service are made by emailing housekeeping@ncwc.edu.
Requests for maintenance are made by emailing maintenance@ncwc.edu.
In addition to their
other duties, housekeeping personnel empty trash cans in faculty offices daily,
as well as clean the classrooms and keep them supplied with chalk and dry
markers. Erasers and board cleaner for dry-marker boards may be picked up from Office Services. Classroom supplies are not charged to
division budgets.
Maintenance
personnel are available for moving office furniture and making repairs. Any
repair or maintenance requiring an expenditure of funds must first be approved
by a faculty member's division chair.
Staff personnel in Spruill Building are responsible for all classroom technical needs, except overhead projectors, TVs, and VCRs. For overhead projector and TV/VCR service, all 5286, for other technical needs, call 5000.
For overhead
projectors, faculty members should consult with the Faculty Secretary.
Some overhead projectors are transportable on carts; others are portable. Replacement bulbs are available from Office Services, the Faculty Secretary. A replacement bulb is stored inside overhead projectors. When a replacement bulb is used, contact the faculty secretary so a new spare can be put in place.
A video
camera is available from the Library for classroom use. Reservations are made
through the Library. Also, the Library has a large collection of videos and DVDs for
classroom viewing and may order others, as requested.
Many
classrooms are
equipped with a TV/VCR.
Faculty members may
reserve a classroom, a room for a meeting or a room or area for an event by getting in touch with the appropriate
person, as follows:
Email the Registrar if a class needs to be moved to another classroom permanently.
Email
reservations@ncwc.edu for the
following: Braswell Trustees' Room, the Hardee-Rives Room and Browsing Room
in the Library, Leon Russell Chapel, the BB&T Dining Room, Pearsall
Conference Room, Roger Taylor Conference Room.
Complete the online reservation form at the Dunn Center website for Powers Recital Hall, the Carlton Board Room, or any other room or area in the Dunn Center. The Dunn Center main page can be accessed from the College's homepage.
Reservations should
be made as much in advance as possible. Minges Auditorium, Powers Recital Hall,
the Carlton Board Room, the Garner Lobby, and the Mims Gallery are often rented
to persons and organizations beyond the College, as well as frequently used by
members of this community. Securing an appropriate space for the meeting or
event planned may well depend upon timing.
No fee or charge is
required when rooms and other facilities are used for College-related purposes,
including rooms and areas in the Dunn Center.
The Chapel is
available for faculty members and their immediate family for weddings,
baptisms, other religious services, and cultural and educational events such as
recitals, lectures, and forums.
Such events must not
be in conflict either with the mission and purpose of the College or of the
Chapel itself. Food and beverages may not be served inside, although the
adjacent patio area is often used for receptions and other gatherings at which
food and drink are provided.
The
Dunn Center for the Performing Arts
The College's Dunn
Center provides excellent facilities for theater, recitals, and gatherings both
large - 1,200 seating auditorium - and small. Meeting rooms include
Powers Recital Hall and the Carlton Board Room. Reservations are made with the
Director of the Center.
The Center's annual
Season Series brings many outside groups to campus: musicians, actors,
dancers, performing artists of all kinds. From the North Carolina Symphony to
the Tar River Orchestra to juggling and mime acts, the Series enriches both the
College and the community. Faculty members receive reduced rates for each
season's offerings.
In support of the
College's own performances, faculty members are invited to try out for
productions of the Wesleyan College Theater, as well as Gospel Choir.
Faculty members
receive a 20% discount on clothing, gifts, and trade books only. The College
Store is usually open Mondays through Fridays, 8:00-1:00 and 2:00-5:00. It is located in the Hardee's Student Union.
The College Store
issues dates three times a year for book orders, and faculty members are urged
to observe these deadlines. Book Order forms are available from the College
Store and from the Executive Assistant for Academic Affairs. The College
Store coordinates the number of books required per course with enrollment
figures supplied by the Office of Registration and Business Services.
Representatives from
the publishing companies and private dealers are prohibited from purchasing
books on campus. Faculty members may not sell such books from their offices.
Faculty members
should make every effort not to order textbooks they later decide not to ask
their students to purchase. Typically, the College does not recover costs when
books are returned to publishers.
NC Live provides
Internet access to Books in Print at http://www.nclive.org, or the site may be
accessed from the College homepage. The Director of the Library is available
for instruction in how to follow the homepage menu if questions arise.
The Faculty Secretary assists in ordering desk copies; however, Faculty may place direct orders through the publisher's webpage.
The College Store
has publishers' mailing addresses, as well as telephone numbers and Internet
addresses for many. The Manager of the College Store assists with obtaining
required permissions for duplicating classroom materials.
Located in the
College Store, the College Post Office is an official branch office
regulated by the Rocky Mount Main Post Office, though staffed by College
personnel and students. A full range of postal services is available. Fed Ex and
Notary services are available as well
Mail left for
delivery off campus through the postal service is collected at the Switchboard
about 3:00 p.m. each working day. Persons concerned that mailings reach their
destination by a deadline should leave them at the Switchboard or take them to
the campus Post Office as early in the day as possible.
The Post Office is
open during its posted hours: 8:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m., 2:00-4:00 p.m.
Faculty members
receive their mail, both from off campus and in-house, in their mailboxes at
the Switchboard. They also leave off mail there for delivery, either on campus
or off (through the postal service).
Located in the College's main foyer in Braswell Administration Building, the Campus Switchboard is open from 8-5 each working day of the academic year. Hours vary during the summer. When closed, the College provides a recorded menu from which callers may get in touch with certain offices directly.
The Switchboard is
operated by the College receptionist. Messages may be left with her or on a
faculty or staff member's Voice Mail.
Any College office
can be called directly from off-campus and, in general, direct dialing is
preferred since such calls lessen the traffic through the Switchboard.
Found items may be
left and lost items claimed, at the College Switchboard, as well as in the
Office of Student Life in the Hardee's Student Union.
Located in the
Hardee's Student Union, the cafeteria is operated by Sodexho Campus Services.
Three meals are served each working day and, brunch and dinner on Saturday and Sunday. Faculty members and their guests are always welcome and may purchase a
meal at the door or use their Block Plans or Bishop Bucks, if they have
subscribed to one of the College's discount payment plans.
Sodexho provides
brochures describing such plans early each academic year. Cards may be
purchased from either the dining-room cashier or the Office of Registration and
Business Services.
All campus catering
for any College organization or group
must be
provided by Sodexho. External organizations or groups may,
also, be catered by Sodexho, but, if not, Sodexho must have had first right of
refusal. Events catered by other companies or external groups are subject to a
15% surcharge.
Persons requiring
catering are advised to get in touch with the Customer Service Office in as
timely a manner as possible.
The Cafeteria is
closed during the summer and during
semester breaks and vacations. The Powerhouse Grill is open for lunch and
dinner. Limited catering is available.
The BB&T Dining
Room, adjacent to the Cafeteria in the Hardee's Student Union, is available for
meetings and dining. It accommodates approximately 40 persons comfortably.
Located in the
Hartness Student Center, the Powerhouse Grill is the campus snack bar,
providing a varied menu of grilled sandwiches, salads, chips, beverages, and
the like. Students and faculty members often gather here for informal
conversation.
Hours are as posted
early each term.
