Usually only one brood per year, 3-4 eggs per clutch, nest building and incubation by female; incubation 11-12 days and young leave nest in about 10 days; common cowbird host in east.

Likely many killed from collisions with buildings and other structures during migration. A few are killed by beekeepers. Loss of habitat is a problem in the western part of its range in riparian zones and deforestation likely a problem in the Neotropics.
