Wgt.: 16-19g
Various insects and other arthropods, will take fruits and seeds in late summer, fall and winter.
One clutch per season, 4 eggs per nest; nest building and incubation by both sexes; incubation about 13 days and young leave nest in about two weeks; common cowbird host.
Known to live at least 6 years but likely longer as in other vireos as in Red-eyed Vireo record of 13 years and 1 month.
Pesticides have been proven a mortality threat in the past. It is very likely many birds are killed from collisions with towers, tall buildings and other structures. This species seems to be increasing rangewide, but attention needs to be paid in areas of the country where they are declining in population numbers. Increases in breeding habitat may be offset by destruction of tropical forests on wintering grounds.
