INFORMATION AND TIPS FOR WRITING YOUR FINAL INTERNSHIP PAPER

Tips: Include the following in your final paper. Also, see the TIPS FOR ACADEMIC ASSIGNMENTS page to make your paper more scholarly. 

  1. Give a background description/history of the agency (include all literature in an Appendix to your paper -- appropriately numbered and referenced within the text and appendix/appendices. Put the whole paper in a 1" binder with each page holepunched and the various sections identified by color coded tabs. Give it the neatest appearance you can.
  2. Describe your job details in full. Provide a copy of the job description if available. Talk about how (if any) did your job details differ from your expectations?
  3. What experiences on the job have related to your academic studies?
  4. What aspect of the job added to your personal development? (Self-confidence, increased competence, perseverance, attitude, determination, human relations skills, responsibility, etc.)
  5. Has your job experience affected your career choice? If so, how?
  6. Were you provided the opportunity to have discussions with your supervisor? Or which any other employees of the organization, disgruntled ones to successful ones. Did you come into contact with any of the agency clients? Explain in detail your contacts and conversations.
  7. If other students were considering this job, what advice would you pass on to them about this position?
  8. What problems (if any) did you observe with the agency, personnel, etc.? How would you improve the agency if you had to restructure it from the ground up?
  9. What suggestions/recommendations would you make to minimize any problems/concerns? How would you slightly modify the agency to improve on what it already does best?
  10. Note any other comments or suggestions (concerning internship, course offerings, supervision, etc.)
  11. Provide an overall statement concerning your degree of satisfaction with the internship.
