September 1991 to December 1993: Magistrate/Traffic Judge, Camp Lejeune NC. Lieutenant Colonel, USMC

Responsible for adjudicating all traffic offenses on Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. Supervised one secretary and four military personnel. Presided over in excess of 1000 hearings as the Magistrate for Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune, NC. Lead defense counsel in U.S. v Parker a contested capital murder case that was tried at Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune in July 1993. Retired from the Marine Corps on December 31, 1993.

November 1990 to September 1991: Base Inspector, Camp Lejeune, NC

Principal advisor to the Commanding General on matters involving misconduct of dependents, juveniles, and civilians on Camp Lejeune. Conducted administrative hearings and enforced disciplinary sanctions for violations of state and federal law. Juvenile court judge for Camp Lejeune. Worked closely with the US Attorney's office in prosecution of criminal violations by civilians on Camp Lejeune.

August 1989 to November 1990: Special/General Court-Martial Judge

Certified as a Military Judge in August 1989 by the Judge Advocate General of the Navy. Presided over military criminal trials on a wide variety of criminal charges under the Uniform Code of Military Justice. Preliminary hearing judge in U.S. v Gibbs, a capital murder trial held at Camp Lejeune.

August 1987 to August 1989: Senior Defense Counsel, Camp Pendelton CA

Coordinated all criminal defense services at one of the Marine Corps largest trial jurisdictions. Supervised 12 defense attorneys. Evaluated criminal cases for assignment to the best qualified attorney.  Developed training programs emphasizing pretrial preparation, plea negotiations, and advocacy skills. Personally defended the most serious cases within the jurisdiction. Lead defense counsel in U.S. v Thomas, a contested capital murder trial. Served as a certified instructor for the National Institute of Trial Advocacy (NITA).

August 1986 to August 1987: Officer in Charge/Chief Prosecutor, Legal Services Support Section, Camp Kinser, Okinawa Japan

Supervised one of the main legal offices for the Marine Corps in Okinawa. Served as the chief prosecutor and personally prosecuted all serious criminal cases. Responsible for training new prosecutors and developing training programs.

August 1985 to August 1987: Senior Defense Counsel, Camp Pendleton CA

Same duties as Senior Defense Counsel August 87 - August 89.

August 1982 to August 1985: Defense Counsel/Prosecutor/Legal Assistance attorney

Served various tours in the above positions. Handled a variety of cases at criminal trials and administrative hearings. Notable cases include homicides, rapes, manslaughter, child abuse, and drug sales and/or distribution. Extensive experience with psychological, medical, and drug experts.

June 1972 to August 1982: Field Artillery Officer, United States Marine Corps

Served as an officer in various positions in several artillery units throughout the world. Positions included that of Commanding Officer, Executive Officer, Operations Officer, Supply Officer, Maintenance Officer, and Administrative Officer.
